Join us, Saturday, 26th September, 2020, from 5pm – 8pm
An afternoon of sacred sharing through healing sound, rest, art, play, and being with other African-ascendant people in safety and peace.
If one believes in birth, we might say that this collaboration began in the nascent days of Covid-19 and the re-ascendance of global fascism. We wrote a collective vision down in the midst of turmoil and fear of a crumbling empire. If one believes in multiple lives that span multiple geographies, one would more wisely proclaim that this collaboration began with the Middle-Passage.
We are sistren reunited after violent, centuries-long dispersal of dark-skinned humans from the continent one man described as the land of sun and dust. The Afrofeminist Transatlantic Collaboration is a community-centered renewal of the energy of diasporic Black feminisms of these times. We nourish and archive renewals of black femme creative expression across the Atlantic ocean from the Twin Cities to London and back again.
As we organize across the boundaries of nation, culture, geography, language, and his-story we practice the erotics of self-making as originally articulated by Audre Lorde and embraced by contemporary queer black feminist artivisms. ATC is grounded in the principles of dream, rest, art, play, and black togetherness in times of crisis. The ancestors whispered our missions to us one night.
We are black relation manifest.
We do not resist, we create.
We do not struggle, we rest.
We smile, we dance, we make music,
We draw timeless wisdom from stories black femmes gather to tell.
We archive black existence.
We are many and we are one. Afrofem, black feminist, queer, creatives.
We undo the plot of racial capitalism and anti-Blackness through the celebration of our diasporic senses–Black sense–through care, compassion, presence, and love.
Our hands are outstretched
Our beating hearts are open.
And so it is.
